EPOL - The Lover's Delight

I would like to share one travel I had recently not really far from downtown Davao City that I find so amusing and undeniably worth to remember. The destination is EPOL in Marilog District along the Davao- Bukidnon Road.

I have been told about this place long before I had started traveling and going to different places. In short I have heard so much about it long before I started my quest "Chronicling A Good Voyage".

Back in my college days, my friends frequented a popular place they call Epol located in Marilog District. Who wouldn't, it is just an hour and a half  travel from downtown Davao. My college friends, especially those who are couple, loved to spend their weekends here. They said, it is a perfect place to commune with nature along with someone special. They said, EPOL is a "Lover's Delight". I don't ask why. I got load of invitations to visit the place but I always declined. I was never tempted to experience that "Lover's Delight" moment they were saying. EPOL, in spite of its proximity to the downtown city, remained a stranger to me not until my friends at RTours decided to visit the place.

Unlike years ago, visiting EPOL this time excites me for two reasons. First, because of nature photography I am so crazy about and second, because I want to discover for myself the "Lover's Delight"  they were saying that once lured my college friends.

And so the journey to EPOL begins.

Hidden in the thick lushes of verdant forest about 300 meters away from the national highway, lies a scenic natural beauty of a cool and refreshing cascading waters gently flowing from a single tier waterfalls called the Green Valley Waterfalls. To many, it is popularly known as Epol Waterfalls. From the main Buda Road, to get to Epol Waterfalls, one should hike for about 30 minutes on a forest trail. It was a downward trek  The trail is established though but i recommend one should wear appropriate hiking shoes or sandals. During wet season, the trail becomes slippery. Precautions is much needed.

Along the forest trail, I passed by huge trees covered with green forest moss signifying that the place remains untouched and unexploited in spite of its popularity. I had to admit that the trek going down to Epol Waterfalls was tiring but with the cold breeze that covered the whole forest, exhaustion is never a problem. Rather, a fresh and soothing feeling of being one with the nature is felt. Looking down from the trail above,  I can already see the beauty of the Waterfalls. It is so inviting. So alluring. I hurriedly went down to feel its mists and felt it kissed my cheeks. Truly, the charm of her beauty is just so captivating.

After lavishing ourselves with the freshness of the water, the soothing breeze of the forest and magnificence of her beauty, we headed back to the resort. Going back, my friend Alan Yurong, a mountaineer told me that EPOL stands for Everlasting Power Of Love, hence called E.P.O.L. I burst out with laughter hearing him say it. He added, at one time he was under Epol's magic, the love spell. He had great memories spent at the Waterfalls. It was their love nest. The verdant trees were the witnesses and soothing sound of the cascading waters were the music. Hence, he said, EPOL is a Lover's Delight. Epol is an everlasting power of love! Looking at his sincerity, I think Epol is really a Lover's Delight. A place where lovers can intimately enjoy each others company while enjoying the charming beauty of nature.

Today, as i write this post, I came to realize that my college friends were right about Epol and its magic. I now understand why they always come back to the place. They come back because EPOL promises a genuine nature adventure and a place to build great intimate memories.

HOW TO GET TO EPOL:
All buses from Davao City going to Cagayan De Oro or Bukidnon pass through the Davao-Bukidnon Road (Buda). It is approximately an hour travel from the heart of the city. Simply inform the Bus Driver/Conductor to drop you off at EPOL. They all know the place.
