THE HIGHLANDS OF KAPATAGAN - The Evening Trip

"The heights charm us, but the steps do not; with the mountain in our view we love to walk the plains." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Still fresh from a great weekend getaway at Gensan's Tuna Festival, another weekend after that was spent at the stunning highlands of Kapatagan in the City of Digos located at the Province of Davao Del Sur. This time, I was with my equally adventurous friends - the RTours.

It was late Saturday afternoon when we left Davao City from the Terminal. Good thing about it, there were total of 18 pairs of itchy feet in this trip. So instead of taking the bus ride, we hired a van that will take us straight to our destination in Kapatagan. Off we go and 2 hours later we safely arrived at our destination. It was my first time to visit the scenic Kapatagan. Honestly, while on our way to get there, I was hoping to see its beautiful landscape and the majestic Mount Apo while on board the van but to no avail. It was already dark since we started to ascend the main Kapatagan Road. Getting there, it was already one cold dark night.
Arrivals at the Rest House
From the drop off point, we hiked for about 15 minutes to get to the Rest House where we were going to stay. The Rest House was situated atop a hill overlooking the main road and few houses below. Hiking up to get there in total darkness with the headlamp as our only guide was not an easy task. I started to think that climbing up a hill is already a very tedious work, how much more that of Mount Apo. But luckily, I passed.

At the top of the hill, the place was covered with darkness. There were playful fireflies at the nearby trees that catch our attention. At the house, there was no electricity, hence, the kerosene lamp and the some candles served as our main light for the whole evening. Since it was dark, I could not entirely see the four corners of the house. But what I notice was the house was entirely made of woods. Somewhere, I felt I was in a log cabin. Cool and peaceful.
The Cold Evening Outside The Rest House
Outside the house, the temperature was really cold. I guess it was 14 degrees centigrade. Since darkness covered the place, the twinkling stars in the night sky become a feast to our tired eyes. I was even thinking of  lying  down and stargaze the beautiful sky  but the earth was wet. Nevertheless, the whole thing was a great treat.
 The Food Preparation

Inside the house, few of my audacious friends started to prepare our dinner. And in the coldness of the night lit plainly by lamps, we feasted our scrumptious dinner full of laughter, stories-telling-a-lie and fun that heat up the freezing evening. It was a convivial dinner.
THE CASTS
After that "overindulging" dinner, everyone gathered outside the house and under that one starry starry night, a merrymaking of booze and unending laughter filled the chilly night. All the 18 fun loving people blasted with much amusement as one or two sing and dance the night away. Everyone was on the go. No dull moment, no "Kill Joy". Everybody participated. Singing, dancing, laughing, laughing and just laughing. The never ending singing of Old OPM Song  was the music of the evening.
The Never Ending Evening Fun
But for me, the funniest part of all was the melodramatic "Confession of Love and Let Go" that turned to be a comedic act of unstoppable contagious "Dugtungan Ng Kanta". My very good friend Lilian Bahay was the star of the night. She will always be our star. Our lovable sweet star. A woman with deep substance - a definition of real woman in love!
"Just Another Woman In Love - The Photo Anthology"

Minutes Later....

And she sings: "Just another woman in love, a kid out of school
A fire out of control, just another fool
You touch me and I'm weak, I'm a feather in the wind
And I can't wait to feel you touching me again
With you I'm just another woman, just another woman in love"

Carried away by so much fun and gaiety, we didn't realize it was already 3 in the very morning. Time to settle the night, rest and get ready for the big day at stunning nad thrilling Highlands of Kapatagan.
